BIO
Laura Hutchins is a soprano based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She got her start singing in the back of the church choir, and slowly but surely inched her way toward the front of the stage and hasn't looked back since.
In spring 2021, she made her professional operatic debut as Maguelonne in Viardot's Cendrillon at Piedmont Opera. She has since joined the company again as Prima Sorella Cercatrice in Puccini's Suor Angelica, and in the ensemble for Ahrens & Flaherty's Ragtime. During summer 2019 she joined the roster at Bay View Music Festival young artist conservatory where she sang First Lady & First Spirit in Mozart's Die Zauberflote. In summer 2018 she was a young artist at The Midwest Institute of Opera where she sang Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance.
She earned her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance & Pedagogy from East Carolina University. While at ECU, she performed the title role in Monteverdi's The Coronation of Poppea. She also appeared in their productions of Iolanthe, Dialogues of the Carmelites, the world premiere of Melinda Wagner's Tell it Slant, and as Mrs. Nordstrom in A Little Night Music.
She has placed first in NC NATS competitions, and was honored to be a finalist in the Orpheus National Vocal Competition, winning the Dvorak Award.
A talented ensemble singer, Laura is a member of the North Carolina Opera Chorus in Raleigh, NC. She has appeared in their productions of Madama Butterfly, Eugene Onegin, The Pearl Fishers, Samson and Delilah, Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban in Concert, Pagliacci, Fidelio, & La Boheme.
