BIO
Laura Hutchins is a soprano from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She got her start singing in the back of the church choir, and slowly but surely inched her way toward the front of the stage and hasn't looked back since.

She is currently studying at the University of South Carolina, where she has performed the roles of Countess (cover) in Le nozze di Figaro, Ma Zegner in Missy Mazzoli's Proving Up, and Lauretta in Puccini Plus: Featuring Gianni Schicchi. An avid performer of oratorio, Laura has performed regionally as the soprano soloist in Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's Missa Brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo, Mozart's Spatzenmesse, Schubert's Mass in G, Scott Davis' Magnificat, Vivaldi's Gloria, Trotta's Seven Last Words, and Peter's Psalm of Joy.
While a student at East Carolina University, she performed the title role in Monteverdi's The Coronation of Poppea. She also appeared in their productions of Iolanthe, Dialogues of the Carmelites, the world premiere of Melinda Wagner's Tell it Slant, and as Mrs. Nordstrom in A Little Night Music.

In spring 2021, she made her professional operatic debut as Maguelonne in Viardot's Cendrillon at Piedmont Opera. She has since joined the company again as Prima Sorella Cercatrice in Puccini's Suor Angelica, and in the ensemble for Ahrens & Flaherty's Ragtime, and Verdi's La Traviata. During summer 2019 she joined the roster at Bay View Music Festival young artist conservatory where she sang First Lady & First Spirit in Mozart's Die Zauberflote. In summer 2018 she was a young artist at The Midwest Institute of Opera where she sang Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance.
​​She has placed first in NC NATS competitions, and was honored to be a finalist in the Orpheus National Vocal Competition, winning the Dvorak Award.

Laura teaches privately, as well as in the classroom and has been on the faculty at Surry Community College, High Point University, and Midlands Technical College.

A talented ensemble singer, Laura is a member of the North Carolina Opera Chorus in Raleigh, NC. She has appeared in their productions of Madama Butterfly, Eugene Onegin, The Pearl Fishers, Samson and Delilah, Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban in Concert, Pagliacci, Fidelio, & La Boheme.
